Profit-Based Unit Commitment for a GENCO Equipped with Compressed Air Energy Storage and Concentrating Solar Power Units

With the advent of restructuring in power industry, conventional unit commitment problem systems, involving minimization operation costs a traditional vertically integrated system structure, has been transformed to profit-based (PBUC) approach, whereby generation companies (GENCOs) perform scheduling available production units with aim profit maximization. Generally, GENCO solves PBUC for participation day-ahead market (DAM) through determining and fossil-fuel-based maximize their own according set forecasted price load data. This study presents methodology achieve optimal offering curves price-taker owning compressed air energy storage (CAES) concentrating solar (CSP) units, addition thermal plants. Various technical physical constraints regarding are considered provided model. The proposed framework is mathematically described as mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) problem, which solved by using commercial software packages. Meanwhile, several cases analyzed evaluate impacts CAES CSP on solution problem. achieved results demonstrate that incorporating into self-scheduling faced would increase its profitability DAM great extent.
